AUGUST IN POLAROID || LYRICS We’re still young, we can afford to be poor It’s not where you live but you do All the insults on one small paper Turn it into a million dollar bill Clean tone and clean note Shake my hands and I’m running away Artificial love for almost no money “London is a big town baby London is a big town baby” And I’m dreaming away Losing myself to you Losing myself to you And I’m dreaming away Losing myself to you Losing myself to you Sadly, money makes the world go round And no money makes the artist go nuts Maybe we’d better go and check out Italy Where everybody’s a millionaire Force down and force Majeure Nod my head - no phone calls today You’ve got the freedom to be nobody “London is a big town baby London is a big town baby” And I’m dreaming away Losing myself to you Losing myself to you And I’m dreaming away Losing myself to you Losing myself to you I ask myself is it really gonna happen I ask myself is it ever gonna happen I ask myself is it really The big time everybody think it is, “baby” “London is a big town baby” And I’m dreaming away Losing myself to you Losing myself to you And I’m dreaming away Losing myself to you Losing myself to you If I forgot to wish my mother “Happy Birthday” Maybe that’s the time to stop and reconsider Too much pressure and my room is such a mess But I need to re-arrange some things inside my head first You know, it’s not the will to win that keeps me going But the fear to lose, the fear to fail Nice house, lots of friends but no mercy “London is a big town baby London is a big town baby” And I’m dreaming away Losing myself to you Losing myself to you And I’m dreaming away Losing myself to you Losing myself to you And I’m dreaming away Losing myself to you Losing myself to you And I’m dreaming away Losing myself to you Losing myself to you

STREETS LIKE A PICTURE || LYRICS Streets like a picture that I’m so pleased to take Swans on the water and how I wish I could paint And the feeling’s getting better In every place that has some water, saying Wistful lakes with trees around them And benches to tap inspiration Streets like a picture that I’m so pleased to take Swans on the water and how I wish I could paint And you never get a replay All you see is there to stay, saying Wishful like a real bird-watcher Wishful sights that make things nicer Like you Sleep, slide, stand - I’m embracing you Well, exactly like you, My wishful heart is embracing you ‘Cause you’re so great and you’re so brave And you’re so peaceful like me turning ‘Cause you’re so great and you’re so brave And you’re so peaceful like me egitated And the more I know you the more I want you Streets like a picture that I’m so pleased to take Swans on the water and I wish I could paint And you’re naturally getting softened Problems don’t seem like mountains, saying Wishful things that seem so far now Challenging targets to look forward With you My wishful heart is embracing you Looking at you Sleep, slide, stand - I’m embracing you ‘Cause you’re so great and you’re so brave And you’re so peaceful like me turning ‘Cause you’re so great and you’re so brave And you’re so peaceful like me egitated And the more I know you the more I want you Like you My wishful heart is embracing you Well, exactly like you, Sleep, slide, stand - I’m embracing you ‘Cause you’re so great and you’re so brave And you’re so peaceful like me turning ‘Cause you’re so great and you’re so brave And you’re so peaceful like me egitated And the more I know you the more I want you

about

This is the 3rd album in the 12-album diary-like series of ‘Alien Alright’. Here’s some info about the album. I hope you enjoy listening to it, and thanks for visiting this page!

A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND:

After 3.5 months in London, I went back home for the Jewish holidays. While I was there, my brother got married and my grandmother passed away. I stayed a bit longer than planned and when I got back to London in October, it was already getting dark early. It felt like a significant change.

I was also living in a new house-share, the money I had was running out, and I had to find a job. The time I had for making music or promoting it got very limited. The selection of songs here is pretty much all I managed to do that autumn/winter.

Socially though, things got nicer. My housemates were: a Jewish guy I was introduced to on my 2nd day in London, a Jewish girl that he knew, and an American girl, a student that came via an ad - all the same age as me. A good family to have, when your real family is so far away.

ABOUT SOME OF THE SONGS:

‘August in Polaroid’ -

“If I forgot to wish my mother ‘happy birthday’ / Maybe that’s the time to stop and reconsider”. This is the line - not one that I’m proud of at all - that reminds me how low and how far I got from the person I wanted to be. The day before my mother’s birthday, August 13th, was a positive turning point, but it didn’t feel like that at the time.
It started with heavy rain all morning, and a feeling that things keep getting worse. I sat by the window, playing my guitar, and suddenly these 4 chords of the chorus came about, and soon also the line: “And I’m dreaming away, losing myself to you”. I kept singing it in a loop for 30-40 minutes, and things flooded out, all the frustrations, hurts and disappointments.
I then went to my English course. Walking in central London, the verses started forming in my head, and the line “London is a big town baby” echoed again and again. After that, I went to see the house that was to become my new home. I fell in love with it instantly, but wasn’t sure if I’d be able to afford it.
The rest of the day had stuff that I’d rather forget, apart from one more event. There was light at the end of the tunnel, but I couldn’t see it then. I had of course no idea, that one of the girls that came to see the house, and then took a train ride with me, would later become my wife.

‘The Immediate Corporation’ -

The first song I wrote in the new house. It all came out in one go, words and music. No idea what the words actually are or mean. I just hope they can’t get interpreted in a way that I never would have intended.

‘Fluorescent Ignition’ -

“Fluorescent Ignition” is something I borrowed from a slangy term in Hebrew, translating it to English. Fluorescent light bulbs tend to take time to light up, so the idea here is that certain things take time to understand or appreciate.

‘If I was’ -

I love the melody and emotion on that song, but I almost didn’t include it in the album. Not every thought needs to be written, let alone become a song, and this is one of the best examples for that. I kept it in, because the album felt too short and lacking without it. I just hope it’s vague enough, or not as bad as I think.

‘Starting to Play’ -

I never managed to find a way to develop this song further. Whenever I played it, it just felt right to keep repeating the same verse again and again like in dance music, or like in the song ‘Here’s to You’ by Ennio Morricone and Joan Baez - so I left it like that. [If you don’t know “Here’s to You", check it out on YouTube (Great song! And Morricone’s music in general is a ‘must know’): www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZXwJcc1u-I]

Landing in the UK for an unexpected stay of 7 years, 'Alien Alright' is like an 'outsider's indie-rock diary' of music recorded during that time.

It's organized by order and consists of 14 albums - all 100% DIY, home-made.

Some of the albums are more properly produced, some are recorded with just vocals over an acoustic guitar, and 2 are improvised live.

You’re welcome to explore and enjoy :)
